NOTIFICATION KOMMETJIE ROAD UPGRADE – CLOSURE OF LONGBOAT STREET TO RIGHT TURN MOVEMENTS
Dear I&AP
Now that the Cape Town Cycle Tour has taken place Martin and East will today commence with the installation of median delineators (chevrons) along the length of Ou Kaapseweg between Noordhoek Road and Kommetjie Road. Adequate working space is required to construct the new carriageway to the west of the existing Ou Kaapseweg.
The initial activity will be the removal of all the existing road markings being lines, arrows and painted islands using a sand blasting operation. As this progresses north from Longboat Street the placement of the delineators will occur and the right turn movements into and out of Longboat Street from Ou Kaapseweg will no longer be possible. Temporary signs have been erected informing motorists of this pending closure. These have been placed along Ou Kaapseweg and the side streets leading to Longboat Street.
This will be followed by new temporary road markings and narrower lane widths along Ou Kaapseweg. Included in this operation will be minor lane position changes at all the signalised intersections. While lane widths will be reduced the number of lanes will remain as before.
Regards,
Kommetjie Road upgrade project team.
