NOTIFICATION KOMMETJIE ROAD UPGRADE: TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND SUNNYDALE ROAD CONCERNS
Dear Interested & Affected Party,
At the Community Liaison Meeting (CLM) held on 13th February 2019, the main topic of concern related to traffic congestion during peak hours and possible ways to provide some interim relief. Some options explored involve:
· Minor adjustments to the existing traffic accommodation layout where it is safe to do so, noting that some of these measures may be temporary;
· Additional traffic control officers and the process of acquiring these personnel for the site; and
· The opening up of closed or unmade roads outside of the project area to assist in the flow of traffic away from the congested intersections.
To illustrate the last point Sunnydale Road was used as an example of constructing a link from Kommetjie Road to divert traffic away from the OKW/Kommetjie Road Intersection. It should be noted that there are other road reserves in the area which would lend themselves to this scenario. The decision to open a temporary link would be carefully considered in the context of the local communities and the public using the road from the surrounding area.
There is a misconception that Sunnydale Road will be opened up to Kommetjie Road. It needs to be made clear that this option will not be taken forward.
