FALSE BAY HOSPITAL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

URGENT REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE: FALSE BAY HOSPITAL (FBH)

Hi All

1. BACKGROUND

The Far South Covid-19 Response Group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/207464020356714/, is working closely with False Bay Hospital (FBH) (Dr Wendy Waddington), among other health facilities, to provide practical assistance and support that the hospital can in turn deliver its critical services during COVID-19.

Please could each and every one of us activate ALL of our social networks to secure and deliver as many of the items listed below, to FBH BEFORE LOCK DOWN MIDNIGHT THURSDAY 26 MARCH 2020.

2. ITEMS REQUIRED FOR THE HOSPITAL ITSELF

200 chairs (used and/or new) for patients to sit on as they queue (plastic chairs adequate, and/or any others we can secure – they currently have NONE)

Bottled water (250ml / 500ml / 750ml) – AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE – required for patients in lengthy queues

5 Portable toilets (minimum) – currently there are NO public toilet facilities at FBH for outpatients – so this is a DIRE NEED

Toilet paper and hand sanitizer / soap – use in above toilets

100 (or more) spray bottles – new / used (e.g. empty Windowlene bottles) – these are required for use in disinfecting work surfaces (in conjunction with bleach below)

Bleach (any form including Jik) – as much as possible (for disinfectant)

3. ITEMS REQUIRED FOR THE STAFF

FBH has approx 200 staff members. They are stretched beyond capacity at this time and whatever assistance and TLC we can provide to make their lives a little easier would go a long way to helping them help our community. Bear in mind that many of these crucial caregivers live in very trying circumstances themselves, yet strive to give of their best to our community every day!

3.1. The following items would be most appreciated:

any type of refreshments (cakes, sweets, cold drinks etc)

detergents of any form (for personal hygiene as well as domestic use including but not limited to soaps, sanitizers, washing powder, bleach etc.)

spray bottles (for their use to disinfect their own homes)

swabs

food parcels (many have numerous mouths to feed)

any other items you can provide to show our luv and support of these caregivers without whom our community will not survive this COVID-19.

3.2. A DIRE NEED – Transport for FBH staff

FBH staff travel into Fish Hoek from areas as far afield as Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plein, as well as closer to home i.e. Masiphumelele and Ocean View. Staff are concerned that with lock down their travel may be compromised. If they cannot get to the hospital, they cannot provide their essential services.

If anyone can assist with transporting staff to and from FBH, please contact our group’s Logistics Manager, Chris Dooner, on 0845130617, who will assist

4. DELIVERY PROCEDURES

Donations to be dropped off:

at False Bay Hospital, 17th Avenue Fish Hoek

use the delivery entrance which is the 1st entrance as you come down 17th avenue

drive into hospital grounds until you see gated courtyard to the right

at the delivery door, request security guard to call a member of Supply Chain to take delivery of donations

please also ensure Dr Wendy Waddington is made aware of the delivery (Ph 021 782 1999)

if you are donating for the FBH staff please mark your delivery very clearly FOR FALSE BAY HOSPITAL STAFF to ensure the items reach the staff and are not absorbed into the general hospital

Thank you EVERYONE in advance for your assistance. It would be SO wonderful to receive a call from the hospital asking us to please stop sending items as they now have too much…imagine if!
