URGENT: Objections to the new draft budget due Friday 13th at 16:00

Dear members,

CoCT has published a revised draft budget after massive public outcry, including via the petition that many of you signed. Some relief has now been provided:

  • R450k property rate rebate is now applied up to R7m value (R5m before)
  • City-wide cleaning charge has been lowered
  • Pensioner income raised from R22k to R27k

Members are urged to look at their increases on https://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/rtcalc/

NRPA member Jon Lijnes has analysed the new proposals and created the following graph showing the increases depending on water and electricity consumption. It is clear that increases are still going to be very high (at least 10% in Noordhoek)

NRPA therefore believes the budget to be unfair, unsustainable, possibly illegal. Residents must voice their objections by emailing budget.comments@capetown.gov.za , including your name, email address and physical address.

Attached you will find a template that lists the NRPA arguments. Feel free to use it if you find it helpful.

The deadline for objections is Friday June 13th 16:00 hours.
